The flamboyant style of Madrid interior decorator Duarte Pinto Coelhois being displayed in this sale. Art, silver, porcelain, furniture, carpets and textiles from his home in the old palace of the marquises of Villafranca and from his country house in Trujillo, two hours' drive away, was offered in a two-day auction in London. In the second-half of the 20th century, Pinto Coelho (1923-2010) was an extraordinarily colorful figure, creating sumptuous interiors for palaces, houses and apartments in Spain, Portugal, South America and New York. At his glamorous parties, nobility and the jet set rubbed shoulders with actors, painters, writers and matadors. His Madrid home was a puerto grande for celebrities visiting the city.
