Handbook of the American Wing Opening Exhibition, Presentation Copy

About the Item

A Handbook of the American Wing: Opening Exhibition by R.T.H. Halsey, and Charles O. Cornelius (Assistant Curator in the Department of Decorative Arts.) New York: Metropolitan Museum of Art Nov. 1924. Rare 2nd Ed leather bound presentation catalog bound in gilt decorated green calf, given to the lenders. "A separate 'American Wing' to display the domestic arts of the seventeenth to early nineteenth centuries opened in 1924." Contains a list of all the lenders to the opening exhibition. The binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, a firm of bookbinders established in London in 1901, considered the "Rolls Royce of Bookbinding," and is one of the most important bookbinding companies of the 20th century. The leather bound copies were given to the Lenders. A great copy for any collector or dealer in American Furniture and Decorative Arts.
