Paris Ephemeral Decorations, French Book by André Granet, Original 1948 Edition

About the Item

Décors éphémères: Les Expositions Jeux d'Eau et de Lumière, (Ephemeral decorations: water and light games exhibitions,) French book by André Granet, Original edition 1948, Preface by Prince Louis Victor de Broglie. In Paris between 1909 and 1948, the salons in the Grand Palais near the Champs-Élysées were installed with extraordinary decorative interiors to accommodate the automobile and other trade fairs. The splendor of these temporary sets was a direct expression of a gloriously progressive Paris married with the work of the French architect André Granet (1881–1974). In 1948, Granet’s work was documented in a large format book. This book has long been out of print. Décors Éphémères contains photographs of Granet’s installations and lighting designs, as well as his illuminations for the Eiffel Tower and the banks of the Seine. It is completed by outlines and sketches of his daring designs. This book contains 128 pages of text in French. This book is illustrated with 80 photographs by Chevojon and Borremans reproduced in rotogravure, a double color plate (view of the Eiffel Tower), and numerous sketches (plans, architectural projects). Reproductions of photographs and some plans of Paris expositions and architectural monuments, including the Eiffel Tower, the Exposition des Arts et des Techniques de Paris (1937), the Exposition Coloniale de 1931, many expositions in the Grand Palais on the Champs Elysées, and preparations for the visit to Paris of King George and Queen Elizabeth in 1938. This is a beautiful coffee table art book. Features: Title: Decors Ephemeres: Les Expositions Jeux d'Eau et de Lumiere Author: André Granet Soft binding book. L'Architecture des Années 30 a Paris (1930s Architecture in Paris), French book by Jean-Marc Larbodiere. The International Style comes from the Modern Movement (Bauhaus in Germany, Le Corbusier, and the Esprit Nouveau in France), an extension of Art Nouveau. This book invites the Parisian walker and tourists to recognize the buildings built in Paris by the greatest architects of the 1930s. After the excitement of the Roaring Twenties, France faced a major economic crisis and political and social uncertainty. Cultural life sees the emergence of mass culture. In architecture, modernism is spreading in society. In 1926, Le Corbusier set...

Paris 1925, French book by Armand Lanoux, published by Editions Robert Delpire, Paris in 1957. 1925, which only raised sarcasm yesterday, softened suddenly. We say retro for the fiftieth anniversary of the Decorative Arts. OK, go retro! Joséphine Baker, Charlot, la Violettera, bell bottoms, the threepenny franc, and Valentino reappear in our mythology. Einstein's surrealism, Picasso the Augustus and Cocteau the White Clown, Stravinsky, and Freud have not left her. With the lamé shirt...
