S. H Glenister, Contemporary Design in Woodwork, 1955

About the Item

First edition, published by John Murray, 1955 A wonderful collection of contemporary design reproductions, including photographic illustrations of furniture taking influence from the Scandinavia region as well as America and Europe. This book represents an insight into the development of British furniture produced as a result of the hardships of the Second World War; all the illustrations are accompanied by either the designer’s name or the manufacturer, despite the fact that the concept of 'designer’ as artist hadn’t gained credence in Britain at this point in time. This is a mine of ideas for both masters and amateur craftsmen.
