Signed Danny Lyon Photography Book 'Danny Lyon Burn Zone'

About the Item

Signed Danny Lyon photography book 'Burn Zone,' along with Story of Sam, is Danny Lyon's newest work. Burn Zone is a Cri de Coeur directed at the artist community and our youth asking them to join the fight to save planet Earth. Lyon tells the story of his return to New Mexico and the dramatic changes caused by the use of fossil fuels. Illustrated with new black and white images of New Mexico's 2011 Las Conchas fire, Burn zone includes a list of 50 climate criminals, all of whom have received massive amounts of money from the fossil fuel industry. Softcover. 53 pages. Color and black and white photographs. Approximately 9 x 12 inches. Provenance: The Whitney Museum Biography Danny Lyon considers himself a photojournalist, and his work, a brand of advocacy journalism; Lyon devotes his career to documenting the demonstrations of social activism in which he has immersed himself. A self-taught photographer, Lyon was first introduced to the medium as a staff photographer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, photographing civil rights demonstrations against segregation in the American South. His other subjects have included the Chicago Outlaw Motorcycle Club (of which he was part for two years), the Texas prison system, the Occupy movement, and the redevelopment of Lower Manhattan. His work was perhaps most strongly influenced by the 1941 publication Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, featuring text by James Agee and photographs by Walker Evans.
