collections formed by private collectors in the 20th Century.
The set of Auction Catalogs also includes a DVD of the entire collection.
For fifty years, the couturier Yves Saint Laurent and his friend and partner
Pierre Berge were legends in the international worlds of fashion and contemporary culture.
YSL fashion conquered the world and defined the way two generations of
women dressed. Pierre Berge, a consummate businessman, not only supported
YSL commercially, but at the same time became a major figure in his own right in the world of contemporary French culture, a noted patron of literature, music
and the arts.
But as the fame of Yves Saint Laurent's fashion label and his perfumes grew, very few other than their close friends knew that slowly, privately, they were also assembling a visionary collection, one that knew no rules of taste and category. As you will hear in the exclusive interview on this DVD, Pierre Berge makes the point that they bought what they loved and admired, spanning many
centuries in time. The extraordinary works of art in this collection represent
cultures freom the ancient to the modern age.
