18kt Gold Brooch with Garnets, Possibly, 19th Century

About the Item

18-carat gold brooch with and ellegant symmetrical composition based on loops and scrolls with a fine decoration in high relief of vegetal elements with slight resemblance to neoclassic pieces. In the top, a circular faceted garnet is presented, accompanied by three ovals (the central one with golden beads around) in the central part (these are highlighted by the presence of other circular carved gems), and another more teardrop shaped in the bottom. from this body hangs, thanks to four rings, two gold strands with flake-like links, ending in two tassels, recalling textile examples often used in draperies and other elements both in the 19th century and thereafter. Jewels with pendant elements so that they move were common in 19th century jewelry, with the aim of adding some movement and avoiding the rigidity of the pieces, adding a touch of originality to the pieces. At this time, the composition based on vegetal elements classicistas accompanied by flowers and lacerías was habitual. Compared with the present example, it is more reminiscent of models inspired by works that follow a style known as Neorrenacentista to follow the artistic style that was born in Italy in the XV century, with these volutes and the powerful composition based on smooth forms and volutes, Also responding to this relation the Fine vegetal elements in relief already mentioned. However, the chromatic combination achieved by the gems brings the smoothness required by the aesthetic taste of the time, without the striking contrasts more characteristic of the oldest jewelry that has been preserved. Weight: 19.4 grams. Size: 8 x 4 cms. Depth is orientative.
