About the Item
The novelist Harry Patterson (1929-) is most famous under his pen name Jack Higgins. The Eagle Has Landed is his best known book, selling 10 million copies worldwide, and was made into a blockbuster movie. Patterson has written over 60 novels which have been translated into over 40 languages worldwide.
In his early 1970s, Patterson developed a neurological disease that caused severe tremors, so serious that he was forced to stop writing. One day, while visiting a friend, he had a seizure, fell and knocked his head. Within 24 hours, all the tremors had miraculously stopped and he was able to resume writing.
This note, 7" x 5½", is signed "Jack Higgins 16/10/70". A passage from 1969's "In the Hour Before Midnight" is quoted: "...I think he must have died during the night, but I only became aware of it in the heat of the day...". The short letter is dedicated: "To Stanley Wails with very best wishes".
A single, light crease mark runs through the centre, but does not interfere with the reading of the text or signature. The handwritten note is marked in black ink and is in very good condition.
