Highly Decorative WWI Bombshell Trench Art Vase

About the Item

Rare and unusual piece of trench art from World War I (1914-1918), Belgium. Trench art was made during or after WW1. Soldiers used metal and used bombshells from the battlefields to make art and memorabilia. This is a genuine bombshell from WW1 (GDPF stands for Geschossfabrik Spandau, Germany) from 1916, which is used to make a beautiful decorative item in Belgium. The artist who made this piece of trench art must have been a great one, because of the high quality of the depicted scenery. There are different animals to be seen, from a highly detailled horse to a carrier pigeon with a letter in his beak, carrying a letter from a soldier to his waiting family. Also there is a little flag which says Yser, 14-18, so this piece was made as a memory of the battle of the river Yser. A unique and special piece of WW1 history, but at the same time a beautiful addition to your interior as a decorative item with a great history. Every piece of trench art is unique and hand made. This decorated bombshell is special due to the use of polychrome paint. Most of the times, these bombshells were not painted and retained their original color. This one is highly decorative due to the use of paint and the fantastic patina which is grown over the years.
