Rare Antique Gamewell Fire Alarm Base Station

About the Item

Very rare base station for a circa 1880 Gamewell alarm system. The unit has beveled glass all the way around. The system was in use in the 1880s, and alarm pull boxes would have been placed around the town. The system worked by pulling the box switch, which would send a telegraph signal to this base station of the box number. This repeater automatically retransmitted fire alarms to the alarm circuits of the city without the necessity of having an attendant being on duty.
