French Michelin Doll or Bibendum with motorcycle , resin

About the Item

Popularly known as the “Michelin Doll”, the real name of this character, inseparable from the MICHELIN brand since 1898, is Bibendum (Bib, for friends). Who created the Michelin doll? In this way, Bibendum was born, or Bib—to those closest to him—a fantastic, plump figure whose first strokes were put on paper by O'Galop, the pseudonym of the French cartoonist Marius Rossillon. The Michelin brothers commissioned the first doll from this artist. It was 1898. Why is it called Bibendum? In the process, he went from drinking beer to having the ability to “drink the bumps in the road,” as one of the early slogans said, to make the road smoother. That's where the name came from: Bibendum, from the Latin phrase Nunc est Bibendum, Now is the time to drink! This Michelin is a Magnificent Michelin motorcycle, 80s/90s edition in resin. In perfect condition, this icon of advertising, which in 2000 won the award for the best advertising in history. With many obstacles at the beginning of the 20th century, the French designer Marius Rosillon persisted in the idea of it, improving and perforating the image of the Michelin doll, called Bibendum. This version with the motorcycle is difficult to find!! A very decorative and collectible piece
