About the Item

Fully painted and gilded case in the manner of Watteau and Angelika Kauffmann. Case was directly inspired by the celebrated private „Boudoir“ rooms of Queen Marie Antoinette at the Chateau Fontainebleau, wife of Louis XVI. According to an independent specialist, the former director of Banden-Baden state Museum, the paintings depict different goddesses and muses, among them Psyche and amor. The shown musical instruments like the violin refer to the first owner. The laurel and the flowers are auspicious signs, granting the owner eternal life and crowning his or her success. The colors are the original ones, all has been cleaned patiently from old dark varnish in a process which took our experienced restorers over one year. The gilding is original and made of real 23-carat gold leaf. This one-of-a-kind art cased piano was probably a wedding or a birthday gift for a princess. The Blüthner archives have been lost in WWI already. But being so unique, this piano is well-known by Dr. Ingbert Blüthner, the successor today. The highly specialized restorers Markus and Claudia Schmidt-Felderhoff/ Bamberg wrote: "Bright green and golden grand piano. Painted with antique scenes and flowers. The paintings have such a high quality that we consider this piano an independent work of art, that clearly stands out from similar pieces of the same time. The restoration did clean thoroughly each part and detail and conserved the antique substance of this piece of art. This way the gorgeous vintage patina has been maintained." Markus and Claudia Schmidt-Felderhoff, Bamberg Germany, June 2017. 195 cm long, inside rebuilt by master technician including a new pin block, has the Blüthner patent aliquot system with extra strings for an enriched sound. Fine Blüthner patent action regulated and intonated for high professional demand. The original bench has the original velvet fabric, which has been cleaned and newly re-upholstered.
