Bronze Scultural Singing-Stone MDL. C. Speaker
About the Item
Playfully hinting at popular outdoor rock shaped speakers, this bronze cast music box domesticates the shape of a stone found in the mountains near Mexico City. A listening- stone-for-interiors that explores connections between sound and sculpture. An object through which to rehearse the sculptural convention of listening to the material. When sculpting in stone, it is common practice to press one’s ear against the material while lightly tapping it. The sounds and vibrations can reveal properties in the medium that are hidden from sight; hollows, interior fractures, hardness, and so on. There is an instant feedback from listening to stones when sculpting them; a true conversation with the material. In the tradition of bronze sculpture there has been a pursuit in perfectioning casting techniques in order to achieve better sonic resonance. Bronze casting was used to make some of the first metal instruments like bells, cymbals, horns among others

Panorammma Atelier
Panorammma is a furniture design laboratory based in Mexico City that seeks to redefine our relationship with functional objects through experimentation with materials and forms. At Panorammma, functionality becomes a premise for visual narratives and a means to conceive altered states of living. Panorammma’s peotics oscillate between disciplines, while focusing on a crucial point of contemporary sensibility: the expanding pathology of the concrete, the alineation of everyday life and the space that abstraction occupies in the social sphere. Panorammma’s designs delve into these themes by exploring past visions of the future and creating the myth of memory. Panorammma pursues the creation of objects that generate fissures from which fantasy spills into our reality and informs an imaginative play; a scenography from parallel fiction. Pseudo prop. Panorammma creates actors through whose presence and performative ability can create of our domestic spaces unusual scenarios. Testimonies of a refusal to live ordinarily. Maika Palazuelos (Designer and Director) initiated Panorammma during the confinement with the intention of creating a permeable and open platform for design exploration. Identifying in expressive domestic objects a possibility for them to complete with and extend our everyday narrative by inserting themselves into it. In a sense, they become trojan horses for artistic discourse by disrupting and reframing the mundane.
