Renaissance Style Biese Hof Upright Piano Barley Twist Legs High Relief Carvings
About the Item
Renaissance style, 1871, Biese Hof upright piano in polished, oak with twisted, barley sugar legs. Entire cabinet features ornately carved, openwork panels in high relief featuring naturalistic depictions of intertwining vines, grapes and foliage with carved musical instruments and central lyre motif. Symmetrical, openwork arcading adorns the piano cabinet with fluttering birds, scrolling intertwined vines and bows. Corinthian capital, barley sugar pilasters festooned with swags, frame each front panel.. Ornate, brass candlesticks also feature scrolling foliage. Repeating, intertwined stem strapwork borders the piano keyboard. Piano fall is etched with a stylised, foliar arabesque design. Piano manufacturer's name 'W. Biese Hof Pianofortefabrikant Berlin' carved on to panel on underside of piano fall. Piano serial number #5089 dates the piece to 1871.
