Canoe 1920s American Star Class Wooden w/ Sponsons by the New England Boat Works

About the Item

American oak and cedar canoe with a brass plaque that reads: New England Boat Works Boston Post Road Niamus Conn. The history of this yard is one of extensive construction of International Star Class Yachts and some small craft boats. Established in 1921, it went into receivership in 1927 and out of business in 1934. This fine example of one of their smaller craft is covered in painted canvas and features steam-bent ribs with planking, brass rub rail running the length of the boat, rare sponsons for stability, two caned seats, two moveable seat backs, all brass fasteners and brass mast ring for sail. In original almost mint condition with the possible exception of replaced seat caning. Great for water sport or display.
