About the Item
Gothic Revival 'sermon on the mount' wall plaque with Jesus teaching.
This large size work of religious art depicts Jesus and He is surrounded by both grown-ups and children on either side. This Gothic church wall panel looks to be from the Dutch Gothic Revival era in the 1800s and we have never seen this scene hand carved in such a large and detailed manner. A detailed scene carved in such deep relief will have taken even a very skilled sculptor months rather than weeks to execute highly impressive. The large size, the many Gothic details, the detailed sculpture of Christ, the depth of the carvings, the perfect patina, the very good condition, the rareness and ofcourse the deeper meaning and importance of this church relic together make this a once in a lifetime find. This striking and all hand carved, symbolic panel may originally have been part of a church pulpit and thanks to a pair of antique metal hooks on the back (that were put on later) it can easily and safely be hung on your wall where it can be enjoyed and worshipped by you(r congregation) and by generations after you.
