Jewish Silver, Enamel and Jewel Torah Crown Keter
About the Item
This Torah crown is a small (15cm high), exquisitely-crafted and lavishly-decorated piece of Judaica.
The Torah – the first of five books of the Hebrew Bible – is central to the Jewish faith. It is written onto a scroll, which is wound in rollers called ‘Trees of Life’ (‘Atzei Hayyim’). These rollers are often decorated with a crown (also known as a Keter), symbolising the majesty and authority of Torah law. The small scale of this crown suggests that it was made for a personal Torah.
Crafted from silver, the crown has been intricately decorated with black, light and dark blue enamels, and mounted with a variety of precious stones. The ornament is floral in character: the arches of the crown are decorated with vine-like patterns, and the entire piece is covered with jewels that have been arranged into flower forms. The crown is topped by a large amethyst cabochon, which is ringed by a band of diamonds and topped by a flower-shaped diamond finial.
This Torah crown will make a superb addition to a collection of Jewish Fine and decorative art.
