About the Item
Hand-hammered silver Kiddush goblet, Moshe Smilovici, Tel Aviv, Israel, circa 1950.
On round base engraved with leaves and tall stem. Upper wine section is engraved with the temple Menorah and with the blessing for the wine in Hebrew.
Moshe Smilovici, 1912-1962, a Tel Aviv silver and goldsmith, who worked in silver, sometimes enhanced with niello or gems.
Kiddush cup is a ceremonial vessel to hold wine for the blessing said at Shabbat and Jewish holidays meals.

- Mid-20th Century Israeli Kiddush Cup by David Heinz GumbelLocated in New York, NYHand hammered silver plate Kiddush cup with applied Hebrew text: "Peace be within your walls". Signed on the bottom. Kiddush cup is a ceremonial vessel to hold wine for the blessing said at Shabbat and Jewish holidays meals. David Heinz Gumbel (given name was Detlev Heinz. He was born in Sinsheim, Germany to a secular family among the pioneers of the local silversmith industry. In 1918, the Gumbels relocated to Heilbronn where David worked as an apprentice in the "Bruckmann & Sons" factory, becoming a certified steel engraver. In the late 1920s, Gumbel studied to be a silversmith at the school of applied arts in Berlin at the Kunstgewerbeschule. Following his studies, Gumbel was employed at workshops in Düsseldorf and Stockholm, as well as in the family factory in Heilbronn. - Mid-20th Century Israeli Silver-Plated Mezuzah Case by Israel HadanyLocated in New York, NYHandmade in Jerusalem, this Israeli silver-plated mezuzah is distinguished by its strikingly modern aesthetic. Bold Hebrew letters from top to bottom read, “Shaddai” used for one of the names of G-d. The letters displayed shows a modern aesthetic of linear and minimalistic quality. Easy to read, the original silver-plated mezuzah is in great condition with an engraved signature of Hadany found on the back. The Mezuzah is a tiny receptacle that houses a parchment scroll which contains two verses from the scriptures. It is attached to the doorway of every Jewish home. Israeli artist, Israel Hadany is both a sculptor and crafter with specialization in silver made Judaica. He studied painting at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1957.
