About the Item

A large 19th Century scientific optical mirror in round blackened hardwood frame on brass articulated tripod stand. The mirror looks concave or convex shaped, but if you look closely is actually flat, the reflection however is not like a regular mirror. Mirrors like these where used in science studies of optical sciences to study the properties of light rays. The brass frame stands on a heavy iron tripod base, with screws on each of the three feet, with these screws the stand can be stabilised to a counter or table top Measurements: Diameter tripod base 16cm Diameter of mirror 18,5cm width including brass fasteners 29cm Max height 67cm Min height 53cm.
