Beautiful Taxidermy Onagadorie Rooster

About the Item

Beautiful taxidermy Onagadorie rooster. Onagadori is a chicken breed from the prefecture of Kochi in Japan that, due to the presence of the Gt gene, does not rarely lose tail and saddle feathers. Onagadoris in Japan Onagadoris have been known since the Edo era, when farmers in the village of Osasa (in the present prefecture of Kochi) started to breed cocks with extremely long tails. Although the breed was declared as national cultural property in 1923 [1], the number of animals decreased to nine. After the Second World War the breed was bred further, where it was forbidden to export animals or eggs. Characteristics The most striking feature of the onagadori is the extremely long tail, due to the action of the autosomal dominant Gt gene and to a lesser extent the recessive mt gene. Homozygous animals with the Gt gene have the maximum tail growth. [2] The breed is found in partridge, silver partridge, yellow partridge and white. It has a land grouse shape and is relatively light in weight (the roosters up to 1.8 kg). Breeding outside of Japan Before 1900, onagadoris were introduced in Europe and, in spite of the export ban, again from the 70s of the last century. Several tribes originated in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States. Because many tribes suffered from a genetic weakness, crossings with other breeds, such as Totenko's, white leghorns and especially the German Phoenix hen took place.
