Pair of Irish linen Wooden Bobbins spools machinery rustic relic This exquisite wooden spool, or bobbin, is a lovely vintage relic of traditional Industrial equipment originally from an old Irish linen mill in Country Antrim, Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland was the home of then Irish Linen industry and Irish linen was famed around the world as being the ‘aristocrat of textiles’, often being referred to as ‘white gold’. The painted tops on this relic has weathered beautifully, with a crackled surface texture with unique personality reflecting it’s energetic charm and character from it’s former life. The color of paint on the ends of this Apparatus no doubt signified a certain task, instruction or order in the making process, perhaps to indicate the pattern for damask. The wood is equally as charismatic with its visible grain, presumably ashwood, and darkened used color. Would make interesting rustic decorative accents to one’s interior, or simply a collectors item, or museum exhibit. One would not find many of these remaining today. Their condition is perfect with no damage, only one should accept that there is general wear to the wood and paint surface, which makes them what they are - special, authentic and with history and character. .
