American Terrestrial Brass Meridian Globe mounted on a turned bulbous gilt ringed and red stenciled tripod stand, Gilman Joslin, Boston. Mid 19th Century Globe is 39" Tall / 16" Diameter at Top / 22" Wide at Base Gilman Joslin (1804-1886) He began making globes in 1837 for Josiah Loring; Joslin took over the business in 1839. Trained as a wood turner and looking-glass maker, Joslin went to work for pioneering Boston globe maker Josiah Loring in 1837. He took over Loring's business in 1839. Joslin was eventually succeeded by his son William, and their firm produced globes of various sizes through the end of the 19th century.
