Early Colonial Stained Maple Handmade Travel Trunk / Chest with Hinged Top

About the Item

Handmade travel trunk carved from maple wood planks with applied steel hinges and clasp. The hinged top opens to reveal a removable, divided tray providing an additional storage compartment. The surface shows very early crude planing impressions, illustrating the hand-constructed nature and early age of the piece. Rescued from an Andover, MA barn, this amazing piece of Americana could be upwards of 200 or more years old based on its delicate, yet simple construction. Additionally, there is heavy patina / wear from age and use (cracks in the wood in places, scuffs, finish loss etc.).
