Small Antique Shepherd’s Chest, 1880’s
About the Item
Small antique shepherd’s box with geometric decoration from the Carpathian Highlands, ca.1880. Also called sarcophagus coffins or Wallachian coffins because of their association with the Vlachs, the wandering pastoral tribes of the European Highlands. Nicely proportioned and stripped to an attractive raw natural finish that accentuates the old symbolic carved exterior, as always made of beech wood.
