About the Item
James Prestini was a noted modernist sculptor who made elegant nickel plated sculptures in Platonic forms and astonishingly thin turned wood bowls. His sensibility was shaped by the Chicago Bauhaus where he studied and worked in the 1940s. Later he became a renowned design instructor at UC Berkeley where he worked with students to create hand sculptures like the one presented here.
