Sculpture by Vasa Mihich
About the Item
A boldly colorful and graphic sculpture by Vasa Mihich, signed and dated 1990. The work is constructed from various colored acrylic, primarily black with strips of white, fuschia, green and purple. The sculpture is mounded on a stand.
Born in Yugoslavia in 1933, Mihich has lived in Los Angeles since his arrival in the United States in 1960. He is an academically trained painter and a senior Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles in the Department of Design Media Arts. He makes laminated plexiglass tubes that refract light, examples of which are held in the collection of the Denver Art Museum. He has had solo exhibitions at galleries in the United States, Japan, Italy and Serbia, including the Museum of Modern Art, Belgrade, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the Palm Springs Desert Museum. Mihich's sculptures are held in permanent collections around the world including Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C, Honolulu Academy of Arts and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
