Set of Six Large 20th Century Dutch Wooden Industrial Machinery Foundry Moulds

About the Item

Set of six large bright red wooden parts in different shapes. Carved out to create negative space to be used for the casting of metal. The forms that these pieces make in the molding material, which is typically a large container of sand, will be the inverse of the final cast piece. Each pattern was precisely made from wood (mostly walnut, mahogany and pine) and was used in sand casting of iron to make industrial valves, fittings or machine parts. The molds are painted, this was to protect the wood and so that the mold could be easily removed from the molding material. These molds are a in very good condition seen their age and usage. They now have historical value, lots of genuine wear and are highly decorative.
