Rare vintage Liberty of London English silk patch with Irish linen pillow cushion birds cushion blue red leaves Custom made one-of-a-kind luxury pillow (cushion to our English customers) created from an extremely rare vintage silk Liberty of London fashion scarf in a soft blue with an exquisite design illustrating a colorful bird sitting on a branch in amongst wild shrubbery, with delicate flowers and daintily stylized leaves it is one of the most precious and beautiful pieces of fabric we have in our collection. This patch is a portion from a scarf in which a larger section was used in a larger pillow (now sold). The last segment displayed age spots and was therefore unsalvageable. So two one-of-a-kind pieces were made ad this is the last remaining. The fragment makes a beautiful, unique and unusual scatter pillow to an interior and would be stunning matched with oriental furniture and antiques. It captures the essence of the Liberty store that originally sold exotic decorative arts and textiles from afar. Founded by Arthur Liberty, the world famous British department store Liberty of London began trading in 1875 in a small shop called East India House, by the 1920s it was a leading establishment. Liberty was not a designer himself but a businessman who had a gift for recognising talent and new trends, hiring the top designers of the time. By the 1950s the store had a seasonal brochure dedicated solely to its scarves and still today a third of the ground floor of its magnificent mock-Tudor London flagship store is devoted to scarves. The glorious, elegant blue ground exudes opulence and luxury with its soft, subtle sheen. The original fashion item displayed the old style Liberty of London logo design. Contemporary patchwork is a signature of designer-maker Katie Larmour, and here she has combined the antique element with new 100% pure Irish linens the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild. Along with Classic pristine white, the natural oatmeal is the undyed shade of the flax plant itself. Lined in a layer of natural bamboo wadding, filled with new plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. Color scheme wise this would be well suited to our Art Deco art pottery by Desvres Gabriel Fourmaintraux also in turquoise and blood red.
