Aldo Barberi for Rossi di Albizzate ‘Break’ Portable Folding Lounge Chairs
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Aldo Barberi for Rossi di Albizzate, ‘Break’ folding lounge chairs, plastic, fabric, Italy, 1970s This exceptional set of portable folding lounge chairs is designed by the Italian designer Aldo Barberi for his series called ‘Break’. This design truly resembles the ethos of the seventies, featuring the commonly used material of that time named fiberglass in combination with a striped fabric executed in the colors orange, different shades of brown, and off-white. The chairs embrace a thought through design where both functionality and aesthetics are present. The chairs fold by pulling the seat and backrest towards each other, resulting in a cubic shaped case with a handle for easy carrying. Therefore, this portable chair...

Tapio Wirkkala for Asko Cocktail Table in Birch
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Tapio Wirkkala for Asko, coffee table, birch, metal, Finland, 1960s. Coffee table with wooden inlay motifs designed by Tapio Wirkkala. The table is produced by Asko. This coffee table is one of Wirkkala's iconic furniture designs. Made with four oval shaped wood inlays that are made of the core of a tree with annual rings. Elegantly designed tapered legs with solid brass details. One of Finland's leading designers was Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) who made a great contribution to Scandinavian mid-century modern design of the 20th century. Born and raised in Helsinki, Wirkkala started his education at the National School of Applied Arts in the capital. Afterwards, he began his career in graphic design. At the age of twenty-five, the outbreak of the Second World War started and Wirkkala soon served the Finnish army. As the war ended in 1945, Wirkkala continued his work as a designer by joining the glass manufacturer ‘Iittala’, where he worked on numerous designs till the end of his life. Wirkkala's approach to design was highly innovative and ranged from furniture, porcelain, glass, jewelry and tableware. His talent excelled in combining organic forms into industrial manufactured designs. A striking example are his inlaid coffee tables that he designed for Asko. For this, he used laminated sheets of plywood sanded to a smooth surface that resembles an abstract leaf. It represents the main approach in his designs; a sculptural and elegant modern exterior...

Wolfers Freres Neoclassical Large Silver Centrepiece 'tray & flowerbasket'
Located in Verviers, BE
Made of solid silver, both silver pieces are fully marked, 800 silver with the maker's mark. This substantial and beautifully-crafted neoclassical centrepiece was made in the 1920s and will look perfect on a hall/lobby table or in the dining room. The large silver tray is mounted on a wooden base and secured with brackets. The outside rail has a tube border with scallop shells. The polished surface of the silver tray is in very fine condition for its age and gives a good mirror to the light. The design motif is continued on the silver collar which slips over a copper liner. The copper liner-basket is cut to an exact outline and fit so that a floral arrangement can be executed elsewhere and then dropped into position. For convenience, this item comes with a cut crystal vase saint Louis of suitable height and shape which sits inside the copper lining. The crystal vase may be 'associated', it cannot be verified that it was originally supplied with the rest of the set, but it is of the right period and style. The Brussels firm of Wolfers Freres...

A midcentury modernist large chandelier with 30 handblown opaline glass globes. The fixture is made of metal with a chrome-brass patina. Therefore an attractive color is visible on the metal. Thirty opaline glass globes are placed over three levels. These chandeliers are executed to a very high standard. Green Table Lamp Drive by Adalberto Dal Lago & Adam Thiani for Francesconi, 1970
Located in Rotterdam, NL
Table lamp drive designed by Adalberto Dal Lago and Adam Thiani in 1974. It was manufactured by Francesconi and features an original label on its underside. This model is part of a series of wall and table lamps. All of them made from plastic, rubber and safety glass. The lamp on offer is the largest model in the series. The top of the lamp can be turned, the relatively heavy rubber base keeps it stabile. Another table lamp from the same series has been described in the Repertorio del Design Italiano 1950-2000 by Giuliana Gramigna on Page 229 (1974) and in 'Space Age Lights...

Solomon Islands Santa Cruz Hand Carved Conical Head "Duka" Figure, 1930s
Located in South Burlington, VT
Originally collected in the Solomon Islands in 1938, this one of a kind treasure from the south pacific comes from a private oceanic collection. This is a Solomon Islands Santa Cruz hand carved figure called a Duka, circa 1930s. It was carved in an extremely hard native wood and features a finely carved, unusual extended conical head, a handwoven loin cloth and turmeric encrustation. For your convenience, many of our photographs were taken in natural day light which accurately illuminate surface areas depicting original dark patina that you would expect from an important early carving such as this one. We will include a complimentary custom wood display base that you see photographed. Dimensions: 21.25 inches high Provenance: collected in l938 and originally acquired by a visiting French collecting tourist in the Solomon Islands then to dealer and Texas collector and to our private collection in year 2000 so could have been a specially crafted fine 1930s tourist sculpture piece for the visiting French tourist. History: Duka sculpture from Nendo Island, politically part of the Solomon Islands, is distinctive, and only a limited number of works have been documented. The conical extension at the back of the head represents a man's hairstyle. Called abe, its construction and shape was a symbol of wealth and high social status, and for older men, it also served the practical purpose of covering bald spots. All Nendo figure refer to deities or supernatural beings (Ellis: 2009, pp. 78-85) Auction sale: Bonhams Auctions April 28, 2015 sale. Exceptional Lime Container...
