Middle Eastern Blue and Red Mini Wool Kazak Rug
About the Item
This handwoven Kazak rug's rich blue, white, and red motifs and small, compact size work well as a mat in a workspace or entryway, or an petite accent rug in a living room, bedroom, or dining space.
Carpet weaving has an essential place in the culture, economy, and art of the “Rug Belt”, a series of countries that stretch from Morocco, through the Middle East, and end in northern India. Persian carpets, first exported to ancient Greece and revered by great writers of the time, are specifically admired due to their strong foundational warps and wefts, and a variety of painstakingly handcrafted elaborate designs. Most well-known motifs range from archetypal, geometric, floral, and some even have cosmolic references to space and stars. These works of textile art are typically woven with wool, silk, or cotton and can take anywhere from weeks to even years to complete once a weaver commences the process. Kazak rugs are handcrafted primarily in regions of Afghanistan and Armenia and are coveted for their archetypal motifs that praise the link between the earth and stars and skies and land, or some even think contain nods to worlds beyond!
Persian rugs range from typical, utilitarian functions to symbolic purposes, to even as art hanging in a home or gallery setting. The true beauty of these carpets is that they could serve several of these purposes across many lifespans. We recommend paying close attention to the motifs and colorscapes that were intentionally chosen by the weaver and visualizing where such a piece would be suited best in your space. If the choices are abundant, try unfurling this work of art in the heart of your home, far from the dirt and chaos of the outside world.
