Antique Kassim Ushag Karabagh Rug

About the Item

Kassim Ushag – Karabagh, South Caucasus This stunning Kassim Ushag is unique due to the use of vibrant colours, which are rarely found in this type of rug. With an asymmetrical geometric design, it has an octagonal medallion in ivory colour. The four corners have S-shaped diagonal designs and triangles filled with rows of blue, pink and beige hooks. Flowers and other geometric figures are scattered throughout the carpet field. Two navy blue borders filled with flowers protect the central field. The main border in pink contains a vine with leaves surrounding the entire rug. In addition to all this artistic design, this Kasim Ushag employs pink, ivory and blue tones instead of the standard blue and red colours, making it a cheerful and rare piece. This carpet is clean and ready for use. Kassim Ushag is a rug woven by Kurdish groups of the Karabagh district in the southern Caucasus region. Kasim Ushag is the most famous Caucasian Kurdish rug design. They are geometric and have a diamond or octagon-shaped central medallion. The design contains hints of dragon images across the field, in the medallion, and around the corners. The four corners feature large diagonal dragon motifs in S shape, with tribal motifs. Scattered flowers and nomadic design elements are also woven into the background. The main border displays alternating rows of flowers, stars or flowers along with leaves and vines. The colours in the Kassim Ushag carpet backgrounds are traditionally red, blue and ivory. Different shades of green, brown, gold and cinnamon are used for the design elements, borders and outlines. The colours used in Kasim Ushag rugs are generally bolder than those used in other Karabagh villages. Both the materials and the artistic level are of high quality, making Kassim Ushag a sublime Caucasian rug.
