About the Item
Given its origins as an ancient silk road oasis, it’s no surprise that rugs from of Khotan (in northwestern China) feature an intriguing mix of Chinese, Central Asian and Western colors and design elements. Very versatile pieces, they work well in both contemporary and traditional design settings.
The bold red color is only one of the exciting elements of this antique runner. The large center panel features a mix of stylized figures and symbols long-used in silk road weaving traditions. The intricately worked multi-color ribbons provide a frame that invites the eye to linger and explore.
