53395 antique Chinese Baotou rug with Qing Dynasty style. This hand-knotted wool antique Chinese Baotou rug features an all-over geometric pattern overlaid upon a sumptuous deep blue backdrop. Located in the Inner Mongolia region of northern China, the city of Baotou was a major weaving center known for producing high-quality wool, and for its expert dyers and weavers’ unparalleled mastery of the use of indigo. This antique Chinese Baotou rug beautifully showcases the rich palette of blues and timeless style that is so beloved amongst Chinese rugs. The central pattern’s motif is comprised of stylized Ruyi clouds enclosing a center rosette. A classic fretwork main border and winding S-shape inner border frame the composition. Though this antique Chinese rug’s streamlined composition made up of only a repetitive field design and two borders might seem simplistic, the elegant interplay between the piece’s various geometric patterns generates a great deal of visual interest and imparts a dignified sensibility.
