Chinese Green Deco Carpet with Salmon Border

About the Item

In the 1930s, Shanghai, China was swept up in the Art Deco design movement. Design, architecture, art, fashion, and furniture were all influenced by this modern movement that permeated every part of life in the bustling, vibrant city. Taking months or even years to create, this Chinese Art Deco area carpet is hand-knotted of vegetable-dyed wool for a soft color palette of green and dark pink. Enclosed by a salmon pink border, the rug’s quiet green tea ground is interspersed with delicate floral motifs, including flowering lotus, cherry blossoms and a garden pavilion. From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
