Rare and Unusual Antique Chinese Rug

About the Item

Sourced in China a few years ago, this unusual square carpet depicts the symbolism associated with the Aztec Sundial. These are inscribed in circles at the centre of which there is a human image, possibly the person responsible for the future. Indeed it feels like a sort of roulette where destiny is made of pure chance! Surrounding the circles are radiating flames depicting the rays of the sun. This pictorial composition is absolutely unique for Chinese carpets, indicating that it had been commissioned for a special occasion or place.
