19th Century Agra Carpet

About the Item

The ivory background and ruby-red accents of this 19th century Agra corridor carpet reflect its Mughal Indian heritage. Flowers in a Perianate style are drawn in two directions emanating from the center enhancing the over-all directionality of the piece. The darker modulated slates, grays and browns of the main border and corner-pieces contrast perfectly with the ivory field and these same hues are used to form the stalks and leaves of the floral forms giving perfect balance to the composition.
