Vintage 1950s Pictorial Navajo Rug. Pictorial elements in this hand-woven textile include an African Zebra, tree, clouds and birds along with the words, "Africa Zebra". Woven of native hand-spun wool in natural colors of brown, white/ivory and black. The Diné (Navajo) peoples are a Native American Indian tribal group indigenous to the area now known as the Southwestern United States. The Navajo Nation is located in areas of present day Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. This southwestern textile is well suited for use on the floor as an area rug, as a wall hanging/tapestry, or as a furniture throw.
