Antique Persian Khorasan Carpet, circa 1930

About the Item

A rare beauty with a unique purple field, this rug is handwoven in Khorasan province, possibly in the city of Mashad. The principal motif of the carpet is inspired by the well known design of the rose of Isfahan. Although the creation of design, choosing the color theme and balancing the tone must have been done by master artists via samplers, the actual weaving being framed out to local household ateliers of Mashed.Incorporating seashell to make the purple dye is the secret for making the rug, that is framed with indigo blue border for a perfect balance.
