Ararat Rugs the Barbieri Tree Design Carpet, Persian Revival Rug, Natural Dyed
About the Item
The source of carpet comes from the book Orient Star – A Carpet Collection, E. Heinrich Kirchheim, Hali Publications Ltd, 1993 nr.64 and Islamic Carpets, Joseph V. McMullan, Near Eastern Art Research Center Inc., New York 1965 nr.26. This is a long Khorassan Compartment and tree design 17th-century carpet from Khorasan, Eastern Persia. The name of this carpet comes from the provenance of Piero Barbieri, Genoa. The basic design of this rug is essentially quite simple. The field is organized by alternate rows of smaller multilobed medallions and larger reciprocal cartouches. The medallions alternate in width and color; from the wider ones, four trees of two species grow, filling most of the field. Both the medallions and the cartouches are decorated with palmette patterns. The border pattern is unusually simple, consisting of separate units, each displaying a repeat design of diamond-shaped rosettes from which spring very heavy, forked arabesques. It seems that carpets of this type might have come from Northern Persia rather than the Northwest since the border design is less elegant than in those of the 16th-century Northwest Persian rugs from which it was derived. Our designers choose vivid colors for this carpet.

We are tirelessly keeping an eye on auction house information around the world about carpets. New York's Metropolitan, London's Victoria & Albert Museums, and other famous art museums, as well as small specialized museums that house private collections, and books about oriental carpets to collect information on outstanding carpet designs and patterns from around the world. It's our Self-improving and Self-developing culture.
As Turkish Culture of Hospitality, the Kurdish Culture of Generosity, and as Japanese Culture of Business Punctuality; are the most important values that this multicultural background has taught and bequeathed to us. - Antique Persian Serapi Carpet, Handmade Wool Oriental Rug Ivory, RustLocated in Port Washington, NYExtremely Rare size, which leads us to believe this carpet originally was a custom order for a Nobel Family. Antique Serapi carpets are one of the most sought after rugs particularly in America and England for many years. Antique Serapi rugs are a major draw particularly in big city America. Serapi carpets were woven on the level of small workshop with multiple weavers working several years to complete each rug. Highly skilled artisans, they continually reinterpreted the design as they wove, creating highly spontaneous and inventive artistry. Measures: 16'2" x 18'2". Serapi is a term that is a mystery in the Persian antique carpet market. There is no location or tribe of this name. Sarab, also spelled Saab, a town in northwestern Persia, is known for weaving only runners with a camel hair pile during the nineteenth century. "Serapi" may be a nickname given by American dealers...Category
