With its time-softened colors and rugged beauty, this hand-knotted wool distressed antique Persian Malayer gallery rug is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The abrashed charcoal and cerulean striated field features an all-over Herati pattern divided into three compartments. Taking center stage is a cusped medallion decorated with a botanical design. The Classic Herati pattern, also known as the Mahi or Fish pattern, is amongst the most widespread and well known of all Persian designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. It is enclosed with a Shekeri style border flanked with an inner and outer carnation meander guard band.
