Emanating sophistication and nomadic charm with rustic sensibility, this hand knotted wool distressed antique Persian Malayer carpet runner beautifully embodies a modern style. The lovingly time-worn bluish field features an all-over geometric Herati pattern. The Classic Herati design, also known as the Mahi or Fish pattern, is amongst the most widespread and well known of all Persian designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. The Herati motif is widely used in Iran and believed to represent the small fishes come up just beneath the surface of the water to swim in the full moon’s reflection. Two human figures are woven into the composition, adding visual interest. It is enclosed with a leafy floral border flanked with an inner and outer floral meander guard band. With its rugged beauty and timeless design, this distressed Persian Malayer hallway runner would bring a sense of vivacity and sophistication to nearly any space.
