Vintage Egyptian Serapi Rug

About the Item

71940 Vintage Egyptian Serapi Rug, 05'09 x 07'07. Egyptian Persian Serapi rugs are a distinctive fusion of traditional Persian Serapi rug elements with the craftsmanship and materials of Egyptian rug-making traditions, renowned for their intricate geometric or floral patterns and vibrant colors, frequently featuring central medallion designs. Despite the name implying an Iranian origin, these rugs are crafted in Egypt, where artisans employ traditional methods to produce these exquisite pieces, prized by collectors for their unique blend of Persian and Egyptian influences, durability, and cultural significance as decorative items in homes. Timeless elegance and Persian nostalgia converge in this vintage Egyptian Serapi rug, meticulously hand-knotted from wool. Its intricate geometric tribal design, intertwined with a harmonious blend of soft colors and earthy hues, exudes a classic charm. At the heart of this masterpiece lies a serrated concentric medallion, adorned with rectilinear botanical filigree, commanding attention with its captivating presence. The pink corner spandrels are embellished with enigmatic motifs, rosettes, and tribal symbols, adding further richness to its design. Enclosing the composition is a Samovar border, accented by carnation meander guard borders, providing a refined frame to this Egyptian Serapi rug. This rug encapsulates the essence of cultural fusion, blending traditional Persian craftsmanship with the timeless allure of Egyptian rug-making traditions. Its intricate details and meticulous weaving techniques speak volumes about the skill and artistry of the artisans who crafted it. Each element, from the geometric tribal patterns to the delicate botanical motifs, tells a story of heritage and craftsmanship passed down through generations. As a decorative piece, this Egyptian Serapi rug not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of any space but also serves as a testament to the rich history of cultural exchange and artistic expression. Whether adorning the floors of a living room, dining area, or study, its presence adds warmth, character, and a sense of history to any room. • Ivory Field Antique Heriz Serapi Rug
    Located in New York, NY
A stunning early 20th century Heriz Serapi rug. Heriz rugs are Persian rugs from the area of Heris, East Azerbaijan in northwest Iran, northeast of Tabriz. Such rugs are produced in the village of the same name in the slopes of Mount Sabalan. Heriz carpets are extremely durable and hard-wearing and they can last for generations. 19th century examples of such carpets are often found on sale by major auction houses in United States and Europe. New Herizes are thick, tough, and often reasonable in price. Such rugs age well and become more and more beautiful with age. Part of the reason for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Traces of copper in the drinking water of sheep produces high quality wool that is far more resilient than wool from other areas.[citation needed] Heriz rug weavers often make them in geometric, bold patterns with a large medallion dominating the field. Such designs are traditional and often woven from memory. Heriz rugs are of coarse construction. The rugs range from 30 kpsi on the low end to 100 10 kpsi on the high end. It is rare to see a rug over 100 kpsi that would look like an authentic Heriz unless it is an antique silk Heriz.
