About the Item

"Elegant Kurdish Carpet. Mina-khani Design Iran Circa 1880" Elegant carpets from Kurdish tribe is are recognized as exceptional workshop weavings, renowned for their remarkable quality, fine, clean designs and balanced variety of vegetal colors. From the end of the 19th century has a remarkable tight weave which explains the clarity of its design. The navy blue field complements the generous large-scale design, framed by a wide terracotta border. The charming "Mina Khani" pattern : composed of four rounded flowers similar to a daisy, arranged to form a diamond, and joined by a vine shoot. This basic pattern can be repeated to form a floral grid. It is in good condition for its age, retaining its original borders on all four sides. Its vegetal colors are harmonious and its hand-spun wool has aged well. On the entire contour of the rug, at the back, a strip has been woven in order to be able to keep it in its own juice, without adding new edges so as not to distort its vegetal colors of yesteryear. A timeless example that complements a wide variety of settings. Carpet totally made of wool on wool sign of its seniority, cotton did not exist at the time.
