Vintage Mohair Wool Tulu Rug in Green, Red and Blue

About the Item

This vintage handmade rug is called "Filikli" in Turkey, a word used for "flokati" style shag pile (Tulu) handmade rugs from the town of Karapinar in Central Anatolia. This particular rug is made of tufts of local Angora goats' wool hand-knotted on a wool and cotton foundation. The rug features three vertical bands in red, blue and green. The red is dyed with madder, the blue is dyed with indigo and the green is dyed with indigo and Rhamnus flower extract. These vintage "Tulu" rugs are very popular in the design world for their minimalist look, comfort and versatility as floor coverings, wall hangings or sofa throws. They are also considered to be objects of collectible folk and textile art.
