Oushak rugs are a specific type of Turkish rugs originating from the city of Oushak and are prized for their exceptional texture and large-scale patterns. Oushak, located in western Turkey, has been a major center of rug production since the Ottoman period. Many of the great Turkish carpets weaving that came from the 15th to 18th centuries have come from Oushak. It wasn't until around the late 19th century and early 20th century that Oushaks re-emerged as a major production center, this time for room-size and oversize decorative carpets, which remain highly desirable even today.
