Antique Indigo Blooming Jungle Heriz Rug , circa 1920's

About the Item

Dazzling & Rare European-Sized Indigo Blooming Jungle Antique Heriz Choice Collector's Piece About: Wow - where in the world are you going to find another one of these?! This size? In the most sought-after and desired design/color combination? In this condition!? Come on, there is only one. There will always be only one because they don't weave antique rugs anymore so what is out there in the world is out there. There are a finite number of pieces and to own a collector's piece like this is an honor. Magnificent blooming jungle design with vines and branches sparsely growing throughout the entire piece. Each meandering vine offers a geometric flower or leaf at its end, and each flower of leaf offers organic natural dyes in some cases derived from the very flower or plant it is depicted to be - this is meta art layered on top with the reality of nature and the imagination of man (or in this case, woman; because it was the divine feminine that mostly wove these nomadic masterpieces back in the day. This piece will surprise you constantly; keeping the eyes fixed and the soul busy. If you can use this size, don't hesitate to acquire what was only seemingly woven for you and you only - this is the splendor of antique rugs. Size: 7.7 x 10 Age: Antique, C. 1920's Pile: Incredible condition for its age - both fringe ends have been rewoven masterfully (this alone would cost $3-5K), and there has been a horizontal section in the rug that has also been masterfully re-woven and you can see the slight shade difference in color. This is gold, this is story upon story, and this is one of this rugs unique ""battle scars"" as I like to call them - more like a badge of honor as someone saw this rug and HAD to reweave it because it was too good not to, and they were right. This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available. Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects. This rug is also available with a custom cut pad (sold separately).

The style developed in Aubusson is recognized today as one of the most influential of the European rug and tapestries History. Workshops to produce Aubusson flat-woven rugs were established under the royal warrant in 1743 to manufacture pile carpets primarily for the nobility. Many weavers who settled in France were Huguenots who had fled Spain during the Inquisition in the early 16th century. By issuing the edict of Nantes, Henry IV granted all non-Catholics freedom of worship, thereby protecting the carpet weavers in Aubusson. Aubusson weavers became the finest craftsmen in the world. • Antique Savonnerie Rug
    Located in New York, NY
Antique Savonnerie Rug Size: 12'10" × 21'3" (391 × 647 cm) A mid 19th century Savonnerie antique rug, the finely-striped black field with an allover-design of overblown curving leaves and delicate floral sprays around a central medallion within a lush cream border with vases and flowery bouquets. The Savonnerie European Rugs factory, located on the site of the present Musee d’Art Moderne, inherited its name from the soap making factory it took over at the behest of Louis XIII. From 1660 until 1743 Savonnerie was a manufacture royale, carrying out commissions for French Savonnerie rugs and carpets specifically designed for the Royal Palaces. In the 1770’s, the tapestry looms at Aubusson in the Creuze Valley near Limoges were converted to produce flat-woven rugs for sale and carpets under royal warrant. No one knows precisely when European rugs weaving began in this area, but it is certain that tapestries were first woven there long before the Gothic era.
