This elegant antique Spanish carpet is the proud heir to a long tradition of rug-weaving in the Iberian Peninsula, which dates back to the late Middle Ages. Its circular medallion format can be traced back to Timurid models introduced to Islamic Spain in the 15th Century. Yet it is rendered with a rich, wreath-like floral detail and soft, golden-green coloration that are distinctly Spanish or European. Subtle touches of red add a hint of excitement amidst the Classic restraint.
