English Regency 19th Century Armchair in Oak

About the Item

A Regency style carved oak open armchair from England, late 19th century with a modern feel is a design tour de force. The wood has aged beautifully over time and has a lustrous patina. The chair is sturdy and comfortable. The armchair has a rounded tablet crest, flanked by rounded-top stiles issuing flat arms on reeded supports, over an over-the-rail trapezoidal seat upholstered in green leather, raised on reeded square-section legs joined by a box stretcher with molded stylized chain design on front stretcher, which sets this chair apart. . Love the chain front stretcher. I got this gorgeous piece at a quiet auction in the South Bay area. Dimensions: 38 inches overall height; 21 inches wide, 18 inches deep. Condition: Chair is in good condition; leather upholstery may not be original. There is a small separation to the front of the chair at the seat rail. This is a distinctive piece and ready to ship.

  • 19th Century Corner Chair American or English
    Located in Lomita, CA
The cherub upholstery fabric of this antique corner chair will bring a smile to your face, but the piece deserves a deeper look. It has a secret.: The chair has a "second skin," in a tweed upholstery that someone was reluctant to remove. The cherub upholstery on the armrest of the chair is actually a shawl or drape for the for the chair. It is Victorian, carved and turned walnut on a part-upholstered corner armchair that is English or American from the late 19th Century according to our appraiser. The seat is triangular with a rounded front rail, that is backed by two low arms with raised upholstery. The curved seat rail has a long fringe trim, all raised on four cylindrical bead turned legs on casters. The detachable fabric drape or shawl is priceless. Appraisers beleive this could have possibly been half of a two-piece tete-a-tete chair...
