Four Directoire Style Armchairs with Tapestry, France, circa 1940s

About the Item

This set of armchairs is typical of the French pared-down and chic take on the Directoire style in the 1940s. They have a light-colored wood structure and feature wide and comfortable seats with needlepoint upholstery, scrolling crest rails, rosette detailing, tapering square front legs and outswept back legs. The tapestry on each back features a central losange and entwined scrolling design, framed by a two-tone green ribbon with bows and arrows in each corner. Beautiful colors and pattern. Elegant design. Very well-made.
