Jac Levee Armchair in Beech with Black Accents, the Netherlands, 1935

About the Item

This armchair designed by Jac. Levee in 1935 is a beautiful piece of furniture design that embodies the essence of the Amsterdam School style. This style, which emerged in the early 20th century, is characterized by a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modernist design principles. Crafted from high-quality beech wood, the frame of the armchair exudes a sense of strength and durability, while the wicker seating offers a comfortable and relaxing experience. The eight spindles that make up the lower part of the frame provide a sense of balance and stability to the overall structure of the chair. One of the most striking features of this armchair is the use of black round accents that are positioned on the legs. These accents not only add an element of visual interest to the design but also serve to reinforce the legs and enhance their overall strength. Over time, the armchair has acquired a beautiful patina that adds to its charm and character. The patina is a testament to the quality of the materials used in its construction, as well as to the exceptional level of craftsmanship that went into its creation. The chair has some traces of usage such as scuffs and tiny marks but overall remains a very well-balanced piece with a striking appearance.

  • Crate Chair by Gerrit Rietveld, Designed in 1930s The Netherlands
    By Cassina, Gerrit Rietveld
    Located in Hellouw, NL
Nice Gerrit Rietveld 'Crate' chair. This chair is designed in 1934, however, we think this is a Cassina edition from the 1970s. This chair is made out of ash wood and has a colorless lacquer. 'Gerrit Rietveld designed the 'crate' series of furniture built from standardized pine boards – cheap material for packing crates – which were soon well-known as ‘crate furniture’. 'From 1935 on the progressive designs appeared at Metz & Co, where furniture by Rietveld had already been sold since 1930. The crate desk...

  • Wingback Armchairs In Poplar And Mohair By Orlando Orlandi, Italy 1950's
    By Orlando Orlandi
    Located in Hellouw, NL
Not much is known about Milanese architect Orlando Orlandi except that he worked with Gio Ponti for a certain period of time. It has been suggested by various sources that this specific design is also a fruit of their collaboration, but this has not been confirmed. It may be assumed that the gentlemen shared their avant-garde formal language. Graceful, powerful and very architectonic. Imagine a décor from a Luca Guadagnino...
